January’s Ranching 101 rescheduled for Feb. 6

The January Ranching 101 featuring a discussion on cattle nutrition has been rescheduled for Feb. 6. Dr. Jason Banta with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service be there will discuss nutritional needs the effects of nutrition on overall animal performance. We will also discuss evaluating the need for and using supplements in your herd.

TSCRA adopts new policy positions

TSCRA held their annual Policy Conference in San Antonio last week, offering members an opportunity to guide the association’s position on many important policy issues. TSCRA maintains six policy committees, led and comprised entirely of volunteer members that develop policies to guide TSCRA’s involvement on state and federal issues that impact cattle raisers. The committee meetings in San Antonio resulted in several new policies that were later adopted by the full board of directors, covering topics supporting lawful drone use, business expense deductions in the Internal Revenue Code, agricultural financing and participation in value-added marketing programs.

Cattle Raisers gather in Galveston for Summer Meeting

TSCRA leaders, members and guests gathered in Galveston for TSCRA’s Summer Meeting at the Galvez Hotel and Spa Friday. The day began with informational meetings about topics important to the beef industry and landowners, as well as plenty of time to enjoy the island with friends and family. Issues discussed included drone use and legalities, federal tax policies, export markets and trade, stocker cattle health and preventing problems when darting cattle. Attendees also enjoyed a tour of the Galveston port and an evening dinner at the Bryan Museum. The meeting will conclude Saturday morning with the Board of Director’s meeting. The association’s next meeting will be the Policy Meeting in San Antonio, Sept. 27-29.
