Attend an eminent domain meeting in Texas

TSCRA and other landowner organizations will host meetings around Texas in the coming weeks. Attendees will participate in discussions of eminent domain issues, along with ideas to safeguard Texans’ private property rights. Property owners who attend will learn about upcoming legislative efforts to achieve fairness in the laws that govern the use of eminent domain in Texas and a legal expert will also be present for an overview of current laws and discuss possible improvements. Policy Meeting wraps up in Austin Friday

TSCRA’s Policy Meeting in Austin wrapped up Friday morning with a board meeting at the Sheraton at the Capitol. Attendees heard the latest activities of the association from TSCRA officers and got an update on legislative priorities from State Sen. Charles Perry. Policy Conference kicks off in Austin

TSCRA’s 2017 Policy Conference kicks off Wednesday in Austin with an entertaining and enlightening talk about state and national politics with The Texas Tribune CEO and Co-founder Evan Smith. Attendees will also hear from Richard Wortham, executive vice president, Texas Beef Council, about their exciting and successful new Beef Loving Texans campaign. Eminent Domain database ready for public use

The Texas Comptroller’s office has announced the launch of a statewide online eminent domain database. This publicly available tool will show which governmental and non-governmental entities have reported to the comptroller their authority to exercise eminent domain. “This is clearly an area in which transparency is absolutely essential,” Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said. “Knowing who can use eminent domain is the first step to ensuring that this potentially oppressive power is used wisely.” Hegar will be a speaker at TSCRA’s Policy Conference Sept. 28-30 in Austin.
