Cattle Raisers Government Affairs Weekly Roundup: Summer Business Meeting, Livestock Hauling Rules

As a function of TSCRA’s commitment to representing ranchers and landowners in Texas and across the Southwest, our governmental and public affairs office is Livestock Hauling hard at work tackling the issues important to the beef industry. The association’s team of knowledgeable and experienced representatives are out in the field both locally and nationally to defend landowner rights and the ranching way of life. Each week we will keep TSCRA members informed and up-to-date on the activities and issues taking place in Austin, Washington D.C. and around the globe. This week sees staff and association leaders in Denver for the NCBA Summer Business Meeting and consideration and support to the Texas member of the US House Appropriations Committee on a transportation bill relating to long-haul trucking.

July 14, 2017: This Week

TSCRA Government and Public Affairs staff is in Denver this week at the NCBA Summer Business Meeting to work on a number of policy issues, including animal disease traceability, fever ticks, federal tax reform, cattle marketing and commodity futures.

TSCRA also expressed support to the Texas members of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee of a provision in the U.S. House’s Transportation-HUD appropriations bill which would delay, for one year, a requirement mandating the use of the new¬†electronic logging devices (ELDs) for livestock haulers.

Next week:

The Texas Legislature begins its Special Session next Tuesday in Austin. TSCRA staff will be closely monitoring a number of issues in the coming weeks, including municipal annexation reform and property taxes.
